AmeriCorps Week Highlights
Highlights from 2016
We want to thank all AmeriCorps members, partner organizations and supporters for recognizing AmeriCorps during this celebratory week! Check out our AmeriCorps Week photo album on Flickr!
We kicked it off the week with the help of Iowa Energy for AmeriCorps Appreciation Night at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Current members, alums, and program partners attended and enjoyed a fun afternoon of hoops!
The theme, AmeriCorps Works, reflected AmeriCorps’ impact on the recipients of service, the people who serve, and the larger community and nation. AmeriCorps Members wrote letters to the editor and were published in the Des Moines Register, Newton Daily News, Clinton Herald, and the Quad-City Times. In additional to several great blog posts, AmeriCorps Week celebration stories were featured on KCRG and in the Daily Iowegian, and Drake University news.
We featured photos of over 35 members with the “I serve because….” sign on Facebook and Twitter and had the highest engagement rate on both platforms for any week over the past four months, reaching more people and adding to the national trending hashtag throughout the week #AmeriCorpsWorks.
The week ended with an AmeriCorps Social in Des Moines, attended by over 60 members from State, National, and VISTA programs. This collaborative event was hosted by Community Youth Concepts' Youth Service Momentum AmeriCorps program, Des Moines Public Schools AmeriCorps, Drake University's Iowa Community Health AmeriCorps Program, OUTREACH AmeriCorps program. It was an ideal event for members to celebrate and to reflect on their service terms!
