AmeriCorps Iowa and AmeriCorps VISTA are filling COVID-19 recovery related positions
Volunteer Iowa is working with dozens of community organizations across the state to leverage VISTA and AmeriCorps State members for intensive, full- and part-time positions to support ongoing needs as a result of the impact of COVID-19. Short term and year-long positions are being filled now.
Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps
As a member of the Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps, you will deliver support to meet the basic needs of Iowans, lending a hand to organizations that are experiencing challenges due to COVID-19. Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps members can help address food insecurity, support independent living needs, manage volunteers, or provide other supports that help address the challenges facing communities and citizens with the implications of COVID-19 in our state.
More About the Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps Positions:
Living Allowance:
Members will receive the living allowance associated with their term of service. The living allowance is paid in equal increments across the term of service. Members will receive payment every other week via direct deposit.
End of Service Benefit:
AmeriCorps members will receive a Segal Education Award when a term has been successfully completed. AmeriCorps members age 55 or older can transfer the education award to a child or grandchild.
Other Benefits:
Student loan deferment, forbearance or forgiveness opportunities are available depending on the type of student loan. It is the member’s responsibility to obtain information about whether their loan(s) qualify for this benefit. This is not an automatic benefit of the program. Health insurance and childcare assistance are available for members meeting eligibility requirements.
Qualifications:
- Must be 17 years of age or older by start date
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be in process of completion
- Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
- Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks

More About the AmeriCorps VISTA Positions:
Year-long VISTA Member Living Stipend and Benefits
- A living allowance of $13,399.15 for completing 12 months of service, to be paid every other week. The living allowance will be divided evenly across the term of service.
- Choice of End of Term benefit
- Eligible for a Segal Education Award worth $6,345 from the National Trust, to be awarded upon successful completion of the term of service
- A cash stipend in the amount of $1,800

- Federal student loan deferment, forbearance or forgiveness opportunities are available
