COVID-19 Recovery Effort AmeriCorps and VISTA Recruitment

AmeriCorps Iowa and AmeriCorps VISTA are filling COVID-19 recovery related positions

                     

Volunteer Iowa is working with 63 community organizations across the state to leverage VISTA and AmeriCorps state members for intensive, full-time positions this summer and beyond, to support ongoing needs as a result of the impact of COVID-19. Approximately 90 positions need to be filled, with service beginning as soon as June 1.

Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps

As a member of the Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps, you will deliver support to meet the basic needs of Iowans, lending a hand to organizations that are experiencing challenges due to COVID-19. AmeriCorps members can help address food insecurity, support independent living needs, manage volunteers, or provide other supports that help address the challenges facing communities and citizens with the implication of COVID-19.

AmeriCorps members will serve 450 hours over the course of 12 weeks or more. (Part-time terms can be arranged if both the member and the host site agree.)

More About the Iowa COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps Positions:

Living Stipend and Benefits

  • A living allowance of $3,780 for completing 450 hours of service, to be paid every other week. The living allowance will be divided evenly across the term of service. 
  • Eligible for a Segal Education Award worth $1,612.43 from the National Service Trust, to be awarded upon successful completion of the term of service.*
  • Federal student loan deferment, forbearance or forgiveness opportunities are available 
  • Training and professional development 
  • Childcare assistance, if needed

*AmeriCorps members age 55 or older (at the start of service) can transfer the award to a child, grandchild or foster child.

  • Ability to handle responsibility, make decisions and problem-solve in the moment
  • Emotional maturity, situational awareness, and comfort taking broad direction
  • Flexibility and capacity to take initiative
  • Willingness and ability to assist in maintaining a clean, healthy environment
  • Ability to set healthy boundaries with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience with diverse populations with complex needs

Minimum qualifications (by the time you begin your service)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older by your start date
  • Must have at least a high school diploma or recognized equivalent by your start date
  • Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
  • Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks
  • Must not have served 4 or more prior terms of service with AmeriCorps State or National

Summer Associate VISTA Member Living Stipend and Benefits

  • A living allowance paid bi-weekly in the amount of $480
  • Choice of End of Term benefit
  • Eligible for a Segal Education Award worth $1,311 from the National Trust, to be awarded upon successful completion of the term of service
  • A cash stipend in the amount of $276 - $345 based on an 8, 9, or 10-week term of service
  • Training and professional development

Year-long VISTA Member Living Stipend and Benefits

  • A living allowance of $12,490 for completing 12 months of service, to be paid every other week. The living allowance will be divided evenly across the term of service.
  • Choice of End of Term benefit
  • Eligible for a Segal Education Award worth $6,095 from the National Trust, to be awarded upon successful completion of the term of service
  • A cash stipend in the amount of $1,800
