Unpaid Internship Opportunities
Training and Curriculum Development Specialist Intern: We are looking for assistance from an intern to develop a training curriculum to build the capacity of nonprofit staff to effectively engage volunteers. Volunteer Iowa currently has a series of hour-long Volunteer Management trainings for nonprofit staff members. Unfortunately, the materials and examples are dated, and many organizations are looking to identify shorter 15-30 minute training opportunities for staff and department meetings. The Training and Curriculum Development Specialist intern will review the current curriculum resources and conduct updates to the PowerPoint and handouts to make them more visually appealing and relevant. The intern will also develop mini-lessons that provide key elements in 15-30 minute modules. Potential extensions of this project include developing web-based or video versions of the curriculum and/or piloting the curriculum with nonprofit audiences.
Marketing Intern - Get Connected Volunteer Portal: Volunteer Iowa is looking for an intern that has the initiative and drive to take on a big project and help us develop a campaign to inform the individuals and organizations in our state about the Get Connected system. This online system allows individuals to look for opportunities to volunteer anywhere in the state of Iowa. It also allows organizations to post their open volunteer positions – a great combination! The technology allows our volunteer center partners to use the portal and customize it to match the existing branding ‘look and feel’ of their current website, yet all the information feeds into one system. Our biggest challenge is that more individuals and organizations in Iowa should know about this technology, and that this resource available may well have the bells and whistles of what they might be looking for. Lastly, this system also can register volunteers for times of disaster in our state (flooding, tornadoes, etc.). The internship position includes developing a social media campaign, marketing materials and overall yearly plan on how we can capitalize and maximize on opportunities to educate and amplify the message of what the system can do for our state.
